For what it's worth, postings on X and Facebook have said it was “a near-religious experience”, “Unbelievable”, “gorgeous”, “best film print I have ever seen” and the “OCN was scanned at 13K”.
I don’t believe it’s any better than a 4k DCP. Just viscerally different with lots of black frames.

That noted, it should be gorgeous!

Agreed on both points.

Regardless, looking forward to this and NBNW, either in screenings from a 4K DCP at AMPAS/DGA/Steve Ross, or at home projected from UHD later this year!

If you live in LA, it was just announced that it is screening in 70mm at the Egyptian and the Aero from Sunday April 28 - May 4.

All of a sudden today, The Searchers stream has been deleted from Max. The old stream was there yesterday and today it is gone from that streaming service.
I was just on Max two hours ago at 10:00 Monday evening - it certainly was there as a newly added title, but it was the same old yellow transfer - hoping it's replaced soon.

Ah December 2026
Well if you don't want to wait - and it won't be 2026 btw - then go see it in a theater with people, which is how it was meant to be experienced. And if you don't live in a major market, then hopefully your patience will be rewarded one day. The fact that a 60+ yr old film - and not just any 60+ year old film - one routinely cited as one of the greatest ever made - is getting a 70mm re-release nationwide should be celebrated.

Do you have a link to this 70mm re-release nationwide?

it's not an official press release...but it's near the end. And this is coming from WBD sources.
THa: Will 70mm prints be available for exhibition at 70mm cinemas in Europe?
We will be making the 70mm available to exhibition in North America, with plans to roll out to International markets.
THa: Will "The Searchers" be released for home viewing on 4K disc?
No release planned just yet.

How many domestic venues with large screens are able to run 70mm PROPERLY?

Still not understanding what the overriding interest is in 70mm vs 4k projection. The 4k will be closer to the restored data, and many theaters outside of half a dozen major cities can run 4k.

I live in New York and there are no screenings as yet. Warner's does not seem that interested in promoting this extraordinary restoration. "No released planned as yet". That is a very ignorant thing to say considering that there seems to have been no forethought in how this classic will be released . Once again Warner's hold the title of secrecy regarding their classic releases.
"one routinely cited as one of the greatest ever made - is getting a 70mm re-release nationwide should be celebrated".....but don't inform the public about the 70mm re-release nationwide when and where. Infuriating !

How many theaters would show this film on their largest screens making the experience akin to seeing the film as it was first released ? In the NY City area once the Ziegfeld Theater closed classic films on large screens disappeared in the area for the most part. Most theaters would show it in a smaller auditorium as most Fathom screenings are. I think anyone lucky enough to see it at the TCM Festival will be the only ones who experience what the film was like when it was new. Though seeing 5 movies a day at the Festival for 4 days might dull that experience.

BTW, the Egyptian screening on the 28th sold out in ten minutes. Unbelievable. The two Aero screenings the following weekend still had seats available but I don't like that theater at all.
