Hey everyone,

I’ve been around in the background for a couple months and figured it was about time I threw out an awkward introduction. So, I’m Andrew. I’m a pretty flexible role of Tech Specialist - which really means “anything that needs doing.”

I’m here as a very jack-of-all-trades type person. I have a background in all sorts of tech, support, and project management type work that was often for large corporations and was relatively soul sucking. I left the US to travel full-time and find happier things than that life in 2019. I move to a new country every couple of months and that’s been life for the last years. It’s a huge improvement. Since I left the US I’ve worked for a couple start-ups (which was not the fun time you might think) and I am incredibly grateful to have landed here.

While I love movies, home audio, and the like; I have a lot to learn and I’m hoping to absorb some of that knowledge as a side effect of being here. I had a home theater system I was particularly proud of before I gave up having a home. I’ve since learned, after seeing you guy’s setups and reviews, that my setup sucked haha. The most painful thing now is seeing all these great products and knowing I have no real intentions of staying anywhere for long enough in the immediate future to create a new home theater of my own.

You probably will, or possibly have already, seen my name popping up in random places as I make updates to some of our reviews and pages on the website that are connected to forum posts. Sorry about that! If you all have any issues with the forums or website, you’re welcome to shoot me a message and I’ll try to take some things off Jonathan’s plate so he can focus on more of the higher-level work.

HTF seems like a great community. To still be going strong after over two decades is crazy and a testament to everyone here. I’m glad to get the opportunity to come in and help keep it going for a couple decades more!

Thanks for reading my novel, if you guys have any questions about me feel free to ask (:

Welcome Andrew.

BTW, I'm also familiar with the soul sucking aspect of large corporations.

I disagree - if your setup was a source of pride and brought you enjoyment, then it was a great setup :)

One of the things I like about our community over some other similarly-themed forums is that we’re inclusive and about helping people find the solutions that are right for them, rather than solely worshipping one and only one ideal.

The most painful thing now is seeing all these great products and knowing I have no real intentions of staying anywhere for long enough in the immediate future to create a new home theater of my own.

That, my new friend, is the conundrum - how to find something that works for your unique circumstances.

I probably haven’t moved as much as you but until recently I was living in rental apartments, but I wanted home projection, so I found myself in the position of buying portable screens that didn’t need to be wall mounted, and projectors that had a lot of flexibility in placement options so that it would not only work in the place I was living then, but also work in future places. There were some compromises made to achieve that but at the end of the day, I found a way to make it work. My motto for home theater is “don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”

Thanks guys

@JohnRice Hopefully you made the escape in a way that was favorable to yourself as well. Mine was not the most graceful dismount, but somehow I still managed to land on my feet.

@Josh Steinberg I agree with 100% of your points. I loved what I had, because it was an improvement on my past, however, I've read about 100-150 hardware reviews since I've been here and it made me laugh that 80% of what's rated or discussed in them, I had no idea about mine several years ago when I was piecing it together. Apparently ignorance really is bliss haha.
