Title: The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection

Genre: Drama

Director: Mel Gibson

Cast: Jim Caviezel, Maia Morgenstern, Francesco De Vito

Plot: A sequel to The Passion of the Christ (2004) focuses on the events that occurred 3 days between the crucifixion and resurrection when Jesus Christ descended to Abraham's Bosom to preach and resurrect Old Testament saints.

'Braveheart' screenwriter Randall Wallace says he is writing a follow-up to the biblical blockbuster that will focus on the resurrection of Jesus.

Considering how divisive the first film was I never imagined a sequel would ever be considered. Perhaps the semi success of Risen has sparked this development. Interested to see how this develops.

P.S , I sure hope this thread stays civil.

I have an amusing memory of the movie that I hope you'll enjoy. I was working at a Blockbuster when the movie came out on VHS/DVD, and it was a hugely popular rental. But because of the way the movie focuses on Jesus' death (I hope that's not a spoiler) and since it doesn't really deal with his resurrection other than one shot at the end of the movie (if I'm remembering right), I remember talking to a lot of confused customers who had thought there was something defective with their rental - they had expected the movie to continue beyond the point it did. I know it seems like such a silly thing, but I remember having a lot of conversations with customers the first week the movie was available for rental. "Nope, I promise your copy isn't defective - that's the way the movie ends."

Isnt this a bit like Titanic II? Where does the story go after the ship sinks/the dude gets nailed to a cross? The story is kind of done.

Well, unless The Asylum gets their hands on it:

Filming rumored to begin this year.

He's back from the dead, but the downside of divine resurrection is that it ages you twenty years in three days apparently.

Mel milking the Christians for more money again.

In the Bible, not a whole lot happens after Jesus is resurrected. He spends time with his disciples, does some preaching then rises to Heaven. So this is going to be a subtitled movie of Jesus just sitting around talking to people. I don't see a compelling movie length story to be told here. Maybe they'll add rock creatures and other action scenes like the movie Noah!

I don’t believe Mel did anything of the sort regarding Passion Of The Christ. It was a huge success on its own. Millions of people loved that film, myself included. There was no “milking” involved in the success of that film.

I don't think it's milking anyone, as most faith-based films have a minimal impact at the box office. That audience doesn't show up for just anything. TPOTC was kind of an outlier in the genre.
The original was able to cross demographics as it also appealed to readers of Fangoria amid the "torture-porn" boom of the early 2000's.
