Jess Franco (aka Jesus Franco) was a Spanish filmmaker, who specialized in films of the occult and various sensuous topics, really hitting his high points in the late '60s and early '70s.
He directed or asst. directed (or so it seems) thousands of films between 1953 and 2013.
His fans, of which there are many, should be very pleased with the latest 4k UHD upgrades from Blue Underground.
New scans derived from OCNs allow for a totally cinematic image in projection. Color, densities, and grain structure are all beautifully handled.
Somehow, Mr. Franco was able to pull together interesting groups of actors. As examples in these two new releases, Justine has Romina Power, Klaus Kinksi, Mercedes McCambridge, Akim Tamiroff and Jack Palance.
Philosophy gives us Marie Liljedahl, and as a "guest star," Christopher Lee.
Both 4k sets are filled with plenty of extras and stand nicely alongside other Blue Underground upgrades.
Image – 5 (Dolby Vision)
Audio – 5 (DTS-HD MA 1.0)
Pass / Fail – Pass
Plays nicely with projectors - Yes
Makes use of and works well in 4k - 3.75
Upgrade from Blu-ray - Yes
