dSLR Tips and Tricks... Or How The Hell Do I Use This Thing (1 Viewer)

So to add to my many expensive hobbies (home theater, guitars, computers, running, and baseball), I just picked up my first ever entry level dSLR (Nikon D3300). This is my first higher end camera of any kind so I am completely raw. I bought a couple books and watched a bunch of videos but I am still pretty much clueless.

I think I will take a photography class at my local community college in the fall. But until then, I am going to play. Does anyone have any book or video recommendations? Remember I know almost nothing so don't assume I have any level of proficiency.

(Don't mind the word. ) I gave this to my daughter for a good start.
Actually, the user manual may be of some help as well.

For the basics of photography, I always recommend Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. It does a great job explaining the three legs of the exposure triangle and will get you away from using the AUTO mode on your camera quickly.
