I just watched both halves of The Council (season 2), and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think I like the two-parters for the Batman-like cliffhangers. I didn’t feel this one was padded.
Originally "The Council" was intended to be a single episode but it ran long so scenes were added including ones involving a character portrayed by Nicolas "Coach" Colasanto.
Coincidentally, another two-parter intended originally as a single episode was the Laverne & Shirley episode "The Bardwell Caper" in season six which spoofed Mission: Impossible. It was expanded by showing how the mission should go in Part 1 and showing what actually happened (with the expected mishaps) in Part 2.

Thanks for the Perry Mason (I bought the 50th AE) and Hawaii Five-0 S3 suggestions both are great. For those that are hard of hearing this Perry Mason set does not have subtitles, the Five-0 set does.
I've been enjoying The Invaders CBS TV series on DVD from Netflix. Picture quality is very good but there are no subtitles. Has anyone ever heard about a Blu-ray of The Invaders?

I just went to Amazon to get more info. I see one person claiming that "Old Man Out, Part 2" is missing from the BluRay set.

I have two thoughts on the matter.

1. When looking at the Pluto streaming service's MISSION IMPOSSIBLE channel a couple of months ago, I caught the end of "Old Man Out, Part 1" and then was surprised that they didn't follow it up with Part 2, but I didn't give it another thought until now.

2. Since I only own the DVDs, I cannot say, about the episode being on the BluRay set. But my thought is, did the compilers lump the two-parter into one long episode? All I know for a fact is that CBS aired it in two separate weeks.

I’ll have to double check, but I recall the last time I saw these two episodes, parts 1 and 2 are in the blu ray set. That would have to be a really big screw up if only part 1 was in the set that would have created a large number of posts here and on the web.

The second episode of Old Man Out is in the iTunes digital version, which I believe is based on the Blu-ray versions.

It’s funny, I have the Mission Impossible soundtrack set from La La Land records. The score for the episode Old Man Out is very short. And the organ music in the episode is so incessantly played by Dan so much, it’s a surprise that music is only 45 seconds long! They just kept looping it. It also just gets stuck in your head!

How well I know that! I'm taken back to the nights when "Old Man Out" episodes aired originally on CBS. At that time, I wasn't yet into any "spy" stories, but my sisters were. Those episodes aired on Saturday night at, I believe, 9 PM. We spent those weekends at our smallish summer cottage, where there was just the one TV, and black & white at that. As I wasn't interested in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE at that time, I spent the hour doing something else, reading, whatever. I vividly remember hearing that incessant organ music and I probably complained to my sisters as to how annoying it was.

The ultimate insult was that it was a two-parter, and the very next week, the same thing happened. It was frustrating to say the least. I don't remember what drew me to the series, but it wasn't very long before I was a rabid MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE fan. When I finally saw "Old Man Out", I was quite impressed with it as pretty good television.

Yeah, these past few posts have gotten me interested in another viewing of Old Man Out. In re-viewing the first season, they did do a lot of good episodes. Several I have trouble seeing, though. But overall, good stuff!

Hopefully, CBS/Paramount will get the '88--'90 series remastered for Blu ray (or, at the least, streaming) in time to tie in with the final Tom Cruise "Mission".. Yes, I know the '88 series pales in direct comparison to the original, but it still deserves an HD release.
