The big questions will be:

Has Melody Time been reauthored with a proper audio track (at least DD 1.0 256kbps, if not lossless) instead of the 96kbps lossy track that was never fixed?

Is Make Mine Music the original version or still missing the Martins and the Coys segment?

Are Cinderella and The Sword in the Stone still the deeply compromised discs released years ago, despite excellent new restorations existing?

Good chance for Disney to update a mere three discs and simply include an existing one (new Cinderella remaster). Surely the 100th anniversary of the studio is an occasion to not include defective or obsolete discs for the nth time. If Kino Lorber can re-encode a Burt Reynolds film to take advantage of better authoring rather than just pressing more discs from an outdated disc image surely four films that Walt Disney himself had a hand in are worth the effort. Nice packaging, though.

I have no answer to this question, but rather an opinion...

Generally, when these kind of compilations are released, the studios just put out whatever they currently have on hand.

And on an additional note: Really surprised they released this announcement on a Sunday.

Much as I want Make Mine Music to remove the censorship of All the Cats Join In and restore The Martins and the Coys, I have to agree with Ron. These will be repackaging of existing discs and nothing more.

I’m wondering who the target audience for this is.

Even if this were as low as $5 per title, that would be at least $500. (probably higher)

So that rules out the ‘casual’ buyer.

The ‘collector’ buyer would already own the majority of these titles.

If there's nothing new or unique about the presentations of the films themselves, it sounds like mostly an excuse to try and sell the hardcover book and crystal Mickey ears.

All of the films pre 2010's are going to be the same discs already available and be most likely still edited for some of the 40's packaged films and 2013's atrocious picture quality to Sword In The Stone as well.

According to The Wrap, the retail price is $1,500!

$15 a piece seems quite excessive given how old many of these discs are.

I don't understand what the origami packaging theme has to do with Disney. I'm sure they'll argue the packaging is "eco-friendly" or something, but it looks pretty flimsy to me, like the whole thing will fall apart with even the lightest handling.

For those who need or desire a majority of the titles, this will be a bargain at discounted street price. The question of versions and tracks aside, there are a handful that appear to be new to Blu-ray, outside of the Disney Movie Club.

It would make one heck of a Christmas gift for young grandchildren. Presuming college has been already dealt with…

"Now Timmy, you can either have the Disney collection for Christmas or be able to go college; which will it be?"

if ALL of the classic films, and many of the CAPS films were presented as in theaters WITH grain, original colors (especially Beauty and the Beast which is my favorite animation film ever) and uncensored, I would buy this set even at $1500.
But, this won't be the case here, so...

I'll pass, even though all the Disney films I worked on are included, but especially knowing Make Mine Music is still missing the entire Martins and the Coys sequence, and I'm sure most are older inferior prints, DVNR, and now that individual titles are being released in 4K Ultra HD, I can wait. Now if maybe, they released a big boxset collection of animated shorts, then that would get my attention.

I wonder since they choose Walmart as the exclusive place to purchase the set if any will be available in store. Even if they discounted 33 1/3 % to $1,000 it's not an impulse buy at the bargain bin.

For a comparison the 4 Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary blu ray sets, which total 100 films were recently on sale at Amazon and GRUV for $100 each even cheaper with a discount code at GRUV. Of course no crystal mouse ears on the Warner Bros. sets but you did get collectable (By Whom?) pins in each set.

I guess this set is a better version of a set Disney released in the UK a few years ago. Currently $295 at Amazon US. No Pixar or direct to home video sequels on this set.

Disney Classics Complete Collection (57 Disc Collection) - BD [Blu-ray] [2020]

There are a few odd things about the discs. The majority are region free, but there are 12 region locked ones, and 5 of them are DVDs and not Blu-rays.

On each page there is the original poster as well as the modern cover on the disc itself, as well as a collage in the back.

Here's the list of movies (copied from comment section in Amazon listing):

1. Snow White
2. Pinocchio
3. Fantasia (Region B)
4. Dumbo (Region B/C)
5. Bambi
6. Saludos Amigos (DVD - Region 2)
7. The Three Caballeros (DVD - Region 2)
8. Make Mine Music (DVD - Region 2)
9. Fun & Fancy Free
9.5. The Reluctant Dragon
10. Melody Time (DVD - Region 2)
11. Ichabod & Mr Toad
12. Cinderella
13. Alice In Wonderland
14. Peter Pan
15. Lady & The Tramp
16. Sleeping Beauty
17. 101 Dalmatians
18. The Sword In The Stone
19. The Jungle Book (Region B)
20. The Aristocats
21. Robin Hood
22. The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh
23. The Rescuers
24. The Fox & The Hound
25. The Black Cauldron (DVD - Region 2)
26. Basil The Great Mouse Detective

I'm curious if this means that Make Mine Music and Melody Time will soon be available for digital purchase.

This appears to be the kind of set that is nicer in theory than in actuality.

The Fox and the Hound, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Emperor’s New Groove, Atlantis, Lilo & Stitch and Brother Bear have never been released individually on Blu-ray.

Unfortunately, the editions of those films that are currently available also contain their direct-to-video cheapquels on the same disc.

Because those movies are not mentioned in the press release, I'll be curious if Disney has authored new discs that remove the cheapquels. I might be interested in purchasing individual titles without the cheapquels if they were to be made available that way. I bought Mulan again when it was reissued in 2020 just because the cheapquel is not there.

Of course, this set also includes cheapquels Return to Never Land and The Jungle Book 2 which are equally unwelcome in my collection.

This also presents an opportunity for Disney to reauthor the Pocahontas Blu-ray to include the extended cut of the film which the directors prefer. That hasn't been available since the 10th Anniversary DVD in 2005. However, I see no evidence to support the idea that Disney will make that available here even though I think they should.

But the bigger problem with this release is what others have already mentioned. Collectors probably already have most or all of the titles they want out of this set via previous releases, and it isn't going to come cheap. So it would seem the appeal for a set like this is rather limited. I have given Disney more money over the course of my life than probably any other studio, including for many of these titles on multiple formats. But this is squarely out of my price range and that's fine.
